HOUSTON — Salvage firm Salvex is seeking a buyer for a polystyrene pilot plant formerly operated by Solvay SA in Deer Park, Texas.
Houston-based Salvex listed the plant for sale on June 27. As of July 24, five bids had been submitted for the plant, but none of them were accepted by Brussels-based Solvay, according to Salvex market maker Jose Garcia.
The plant was built in the late 1990s and has been vacant since 2009. The sale includes pumps, valves, reactors and scales. Garcia said if no acceptable bid is received for the entire plant, pieces of equipment could be sold off separately.
Salvex markets salvaged goods from numerous industries, including chemicals, energy, aviation and plastics/rubber. Other services offered by the firm include commercial online auctions, asset recovery, supply chain management and bankruptcy recovery. Salvex was founded in 2002 by salvage industry veteran Charlie Wilson.
In addition to the PS pilot plant, Salvex as of July 24 had more than 40 listings for plastics/rubber products, including multiple listings for virgin and regrind resin, film and assorted plastic scrap.
